Free ESL Materials: What is your favorite?
Here is a little freebie for you busy teachers out there! This is a nice worksheet that pairs hand in hand with Unit 2 of the New Horizon First Year English textbook.
A basic lesson plan to use this with would be as follows:
Target Language: What is your favorite ______? _________ is my favorite ______
3-5 Minutes - Greetings and warmup game; Crisscross or English Janken
10-15 minutes - Intro to new Vocab: Convey meaning and form of new words on page 23. Have students copy down new words into their notebooks with the meanings. Convey meaning of full phrases and have them copy these down as well.
5 minutes - Pronunciation Practice: Read dialogue in textbook on page 23. Have students first listen, then have them repeat back each line chorally (as a whole), in smaller groups, and individually and work on any pronunciation issues that may come up.
5 minutes - Intro to Target Language/Activity demo: Ask students what their favorite foods are. Model with the HRT. Ask him what his favorite foods are and have him ask you. Then, ask a few students and have them respond with the target language, "_______ is my favorite food."
10 minutes - Reading and Writing portion of worksheet: Now that you have demonstrated TL, show students the worksheet and have them fill out as many as they can in 10 minutes.
5 minutes - Speaking and Listening Activity: Group mingle - Have students get up and ask other students using TL "What is your favorite _____" Students will respond with "_______ is my favorite ______", Have students mark on their worksheets every time they found something similar with someone.
5 minutes - Whole Class Feedback and Final Greetings: Ask students how many things they had in common with their friends. Ask a few of them what their favorite things were and who they had things in common with. After you've gotten feedback from enough students give your final greeting.
